Spiritual Coaching Vol 1 #18 Relax…

The pressure is off. Even for last minute shoppers who love the pressure of that final gift –  it’s time to let go and relax a bit. An American journalist once wrote, The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it. So let’s do that. It seems that “go” is the word of the day. “Just do it,” is the slogan of the masses. But, “stop,” is what we ought to do right now. Seriously shopping twenty-four hours a day is insane. Shipping containers come full to us from the far east and stack up empty because we make fewer things to consume. So relax – don’t consume as much – live with less.

The prophet Isaiah communicated a thought from God, I will quietly look from my dwelling like clear heat in sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest. Is. 18 God created from nothingness. After a creative period God rests and relaxes. God builds relaxation into the very purpose of life. No guilt or shame with that. Jesus reminded us that we need times of Sabbath not because it was a rule or regulation but because it’s good for us; the Sabbath was made for humans; not humans for the Sabbath. Now this year there are two Sabbaths in one. Christmas Day and Sunday. It’s a double bonus.

God to church, worship, pray, eat, drink, play, rest, and relax. God enjoys a good time with family and friends too. All those times Jesus was with the disciples at Mary, Martha, and Lazarus’ home, or out in the boat, or hiking in the hills – Jesus was teaching by example. Help the cooks and dishwashers out. Take your assets and get up and help them so that everyone can relax after the big meal. Better yet, talk about helping next year to feed the homeless or take a fresh meal to a family in need or even inviting them in to your home.

Be blessed and don’t forget to relax…
