Spiritual Coaching Vol 1 #19 Presence…

Presence…

Many of you are unwrapping and giving presents. You’ve thought about them and maybe even prayed for the person to whom you are giving them. Carefully wrapped with a bow or a name hidden in the corner of the paper. Yet, what we are celebrating is not the presents but the presence that Jesus promised to those who call themselves his followers. Those for whom this is not a holiday of faith, presence is still the most important part of the day and I believe that is also a gift of God (acknowledged or not).

Presence…

To be fully present for each other – to look into another persons eyes – to listen attentively and wait for the other person to finish talking – to acknowledge and appreciate what other people mean to you – to say “I love you” as well as show it to those close to you and those who mean so much to you – to let the spirit of giving last beyond December twenty-fifth – all these things and more make up the presence that we all need to nourish our souls. In the book of Genesis it says, When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the LORD God walking about in the garden. The very essence of creation tells us we were made to enjoy the presence of God and of each other as though it were as common as sunrise or sunset. We are far from that now, sadly. We recapture it for moments but they are fleeting. So practice this presence for however long you are able and celebrate it – enjoy it. Merry Christmas.
