Spiritual Coaching Vol 2 #4 Guts…

It’s a good word. No guts, no glory, or,gutsy decision, or, what does your gut say, all of these get you stirred to your, well, guts. Most of what we do is to avoid rocking the boat and trying to be being politically correct in this namby pamby world. We lack courage and a sense of risk. We try to be so careful in most things that we fail to live fully. Mia Hamm, the great American soccer player, said, True champions aren’t always the ones that win, but those with the most guts.

Psalm 84 describes God’s people going from strength to strength. We aren’t designed to go from timid to timid. We aren’t wimps who walk with heads hanging low and eyes on the ground. We are people who’s eyes can be lifted up making gutsy moves that are built on a sure foundation. Sure we will make some mistakes. We may even annoy some people. But be bold – have some guts in how you live.

This doesn’t mean you are a selfish or self-centered person who doesn’t care about others. It’s just the opposite. You care enough to be yourself based on a relationship with the one who created your personality and your possibilities. Have you ever watched a toddler as she or he begins to take their first few steps. They hold on to a piece of furniture at first and then boldly step once, then twice, then boom they fall. A tear or two may come but they scoot to the next stable structure and up they go to try again. There is no stopping them from walking. In a short time they are running. Take a lesson from a toddler. Be bold – have some guts.
