Spiritual Coaching Vol 2 #6 Grace….

Grace is one of the most evocative words we can experience. It is multidimensional and asks for more than a day to consider. There is the personal grace we have received, the grace we share, the grace we show to creation, and grace that is yet unexplored. No matter what your political persuasion may be President Barack Obama is right when he said, But what we can do, as flawed as we are, is still see God in other people, and do our best to help them find their own grace. That’s what I strive to do, that’s what I pray to do every day. In order to see God in other people we need to first have experienced the grace of God. Sheer undeserved mercy, peace, and loveliness.

Grace first and foremost flows freely from the creator to the creation. We experience it daily even if we do not recognize it. Each breath we take has the prerequisite of grace. The New Testament word charis almost denotes a “loveliness” in our very existence. It is as though a quality is given to us from above. In the great hymn by John Newton,  Amazing Grace, which is known the world over for its powerful words charged with meaning we hear, (grace as a) sweet … sound, that save a wretch like me. Undeserved yet freely given. Even to those who do not recognize the grace.

How do you experience it? Find a moment today to write down how you experience grace as a gift. Frederick Buechner, author and pastor wrote his version down once and said, The grace of God means something like: Here is your life. You might never have been, but you are because the party wouldn’t have been complete without you. And so it is…the party wouldn’t be complete without you. You. In your uniqueness we are richer and better. Receive that word of grace this day.
