Spiritual Coaching Vol 2 #13 Carpe Diem…

Carpe Diem…

It’s been a few years since I heard Mr. Keating speak those words to his fictional class in the movie “Dead Poets Society”, Gather ye rosebuds while ye may…carpe diem…seize the day. It is not a phrase ignoring responsibility. It is more of a call to follow your heart. So much of life just slips by without really comprehending the scope and beauty of each moment, encounter, thought, and feeling. We would go crazy, I suppose, if we really took time to comprehend every single moment. Yet, to seize the day is to grab the moments that make a difference. What does carpe diem mean to you? Where do you want to grab on to life, dreams, hopes, and plans? Each of you have so much to offer.

Psalm 139:14 says,  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. If this is so you are created to be unique and beautiful. You are extraordinary in beauty and elegance. Me, you ask. Yes – absolutely. Some of you don’t believe it because of years of discouragement and disappointment. Today – “seize the day!” Make today count even if it is in small ways. You are an ambassador of light and life. You are a torch-bearer of joy.

Carpe Diem…

I went to a birthday party yesterday and one of the members of our group brought a box of bubble makers. There we sat in the restaurant surrounded by the lunchtime crowd hurrying to eat their meal before they had to get back to the office or to the next sales call. Out came the bubble makers and a whole table of people blowing bubbles. It was infectious. Random people were smiling and laughing and celebrating with us. Each day offers some unique way to seize it – go do that.
