Spiritual Coaching Vol 2 #19 Write…

Write…

Every day I write to you about things that are on my mind. I think about what God is doing all around me and listen to the whisper of the Spirit. I don’t always hear well but I try. You try it, too. Listen in the quiet of your day. If you don’t have any quiet – find some. Maybe you think you can’t write but you can. A sentence, a paragraph, a journal entry, or just a post-it-note – but write. You have something valuable to write down. Even if it is just for you to look at and think about.

Write…

I had a friend who would write down a verse from a Gospel on a post-it-note every Monday and stick it to the steering wheel of his car. All week long he would read it at stop lights or glance at it on long empty stretches of road. He began to memorize and remember these words of grace and love. It became like a weekly love note from God that he could share with people. Benjamin Franklin wrote, “Write your injuries in dust, your benefits in marble.” Whatever you do, write. Write a letter instead of an email sometime – talk about shock when you spend $.55 to send a letter to someone. Do it now before there is no post office. Or send a thank you note. You say you can’t write – borrow words to share with someone. A written note can be a beautiful thing. You say, “No – I mean I really can’t write.” Then learn or dictate your thoughts to someone. Saint Paul did this with most of his letters because of what may have been an eye problem.

Write…

The Letter to the Hebrews records this,  “I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Hebrews 8:10. The power of writing something has a sense of permanence – something that has value. Let the Spirit write on your heart and then let it flow through you – you will be amazed. Keep a diary or journal or blog – maybe not even for others but just for you. I think you will agree that it becomes and exercise of your heart and mind. Think about what the Spirit has to say to you. It wont even seem like work.
