Spiritual Coaching Vol 2 #22 Care…

“When you care enough to send the very best”, do you remember that tag line? Care is an altruistic behavior. There are times we feel what has been called “compassion or care overload”. That happened to me yesterday. You care so much and then the reward is rejection, lack of appreciation, and downright apathy toward what you have done for someone. “Why care”, you ask. Wayne Dyer, the self help speaker, wrote, “Love is the ability and willingness to allow those that you care for to be what they choose for themselves without any insistence that they satisfy you.” To care implies an ability to love without expectation that things will turn out the way you want them to turn out. People will be who they are.

We care because we should. If we do care and one other person begins to care – think how blessed life will become. Care begins to spread – life improves one person at a time. Selfishness abates and love wins. What if Jesus words were actually put into practice? Read these from Luke chapter 6 and think about that, …“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you. 32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

We will care imperfectly, we may even care selfishly, but when we care we change the world around us. So do your best to care – you be the care package people get.
