Spiritual Coaching Vol 2 #27 Solid…

What are you building your life on? Does it feel solid or like shifting sand? We sometimes deceive ourselves with our stories and fantasies. We see cracks and fishers all over our world but we stay-put hoping that things will magically fix themselves. People do this, communities, and even countries fool themselves all the time. They continue to build on sinking sand. J.K. Rowling, beloved author of the Harry Potter series wrote, “I was set free because my greatest fear had been realized, and I still had a daughter who I adored, and I had an old typewriter and a big idea. And so rock bottom became a solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.”
She had, in a very real sense, hit rock bottom before she knew how to rebuild. She moved from being stuck to a new residence of building a new life.

Have you ever run down a sand dune? You are propelled forward by your own momentum while your feet sink and gravity drags you down and forward until you reach the water’s edge or the valley floor. Sometimes it feels that way in life. You just slogged up this big sand dune you thought was a mountain and it’s just a pile of shifting sand. Get off of it. Don’t stay there. Let’s face it, sometimes we need to hit rock bottom before we can rebuild.  Jesus said, “…everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise person who built their house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24) Truth, excellence, focus, mission, purpose are words that suggest the gifts given by the creator. Those are the tools, bricks, and boards to use to build or rebuild. Go build something – but build it on something solid.

Be Well!
