Spiritual Coaching Vol 2 #34 Tut…

Tut…

It was today in 1923 in Thebes, Egypt. Howard Carter, the English archeologist entered the sealed burial chamber of an ancient Egyptian Boy King – Tutankhamen, or King Tut as most of us have come to know him. There in the bowels of the earth the king, or pharaoh, who was thought to be a god, lay the boy ruler inside his sarcophagus with three more coffins nested inside each other – there he lay in the last coffin made of solid gold – there was the mummified body of Tutankhamen. All the riches, all the mummification, all the elaborate goods placed with him did not mean a thing. He was as dead as the poorest slave in Egypt.

Tut…

The Gospel writer John said in his Master’s voice, “And this is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent…” This assumes you are already known by the one who created you – eternity is a gift of knowing and living that relationship. What freedom this can be to live your life worry free. You are known and you can know eternity right now in the relationship with the Eternal. It’s not the things you have to accomplished or the things you do to gain eternity that matters. Be the healthiest happiest person you can be in a relationship not in a bunch of rules or riches. Tut’s gold, curse, artifacts are still housed in Egypt for the world to visit and view but that is not eternal life. It is the lives you touch that make the difference. I appreciate what Helen Hays once said, “Mere longevity is a good thing for those who watch life from the side lines. For those who play the game, an hour may be a year, a single day’s work an achievement for eternity.” You can do something today that matters. Food for the food pantry, clothing for the homeless shelter, a visit to the nursing home for someone who never has visitors, a stop in the children’s ward of a hospital to read, a local school to volunteer with a child who has no one who cares, a silent prayer, an understanding ear for a troubled friend, and your own imagination’s idea of living now – the NOW that is a part of the eternal. You do not do these things because you have to – you do them because you are free from worrying about the outcome. It is done.

Be Well.
