Yesterday was my son’s birthday. Aaaaah – he can’t be that old. He came in with tornado warnings but oh was I happy to see him. His mother was too, of course. He was a fine lad – still is. Pride is a funny word. It is sometimes viewed negatively. Like, “My Son is an Honor Student at…..” That is irritating – bragging. But pride that celebrates the sheer joy of life and love – that’s different – that’s good. I’m proud of him. He has a wonderful wife and is doing fine work that helps kids and teachers acheive. I’m proud. I liked the quote, “Generosity is giving more than you can, and pride is taking less than you need.” (Khalil Gibran)
Do your best – celebrate your accomplishments – encourage and develop others – have a sense of honest humble pride – and be generous. I’m thankful for a son and daughter that fill me with pride and purpose. Happy birthday, son.
