Spiritual Coaching Vol 2 #148 Sleepless in LaPorte

Well I had one of those nights – have you ever experienced this – you are awake, the clock ticks, it’s way past time to sleep, you read, you watch TV, you drink a glass of milk, you read again, you begin to worry about what time you have to get up – you get it. Anyway that was last night. Hurricanes, conventions, and late evening phone calls can really disrupt the flow of everything. Perhaps having a night like that once in awhile teaches us to appreciate the need for a good night’s sleep. I used to think (when I was much younger) that sleep was a waste of valuable time. Five hours was all I needed to get by – but that’s all I did – got by. Now I realize that it is valuable and I’m much more productive when I’m awake. Jesus seemed to be able to fall asleep anywhere. “Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.'” Luke 9:58 or “After Jesus left in a boat with his disciples, a terrible storm suddenly struck the lake, and waves started splashing into their boat.” Mark 8:23 It would be so nice to have that ability to just fall asleep. I’ve tried many methods to cultivate better sleep patterns and quiet down exercises but alas they failed me.

Thankfully the day brings energy and enthusiasm for life. I hope that when you face days like that you will remember that there is One who wants to restore you and has given us blessed sleep to give us energy to work and serve. Sorry for the delay in the blog if you are used to an early morning but there are days like that.

Be Well
