Spiritual Coaching Vol 2 #170 Smaller… http://www.dennymeyer.me
Last night I got to talk with brother Will who just returned from Turkey. He and his wife traveled to Istanbul and other cities of this historic country. There are cities there mentioned prominently in the book of Revelation – some are only ruins today – Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. One thing he mentioned as he spoke about the hospitality of people in Turkey was a comment of one man, “Governments are all different and have different purposes but people are all the same.” That’s at least close to what was said and what is the truth. If we could all travel the world more we would find that people are often respectful and welcoming to travelers. It makes our world seem smaller and more accessible.
Listen to what the Bible says about hospitality: 1 Peter 4:9 “Show hospitality to one another without grumbling,” or Hebrews 13:2 “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” There are others too. We appeal to the nobler angels of our nature when we show hospitality to others. That, of course, requires us to think of others comfort and needs ahead of our own. That is difficult when we are by nature selfish. Only when we are changed from the inside out and realize that we have been shown grace and welcome do we begin to break the bonds of self-centeredness. Show hospitality today or tomorrow as you are able – make a list of some things that you can do – share them with me if you like.
