Yesterday’s entry was too long but it was worth the read to remind ourselves about etiquette on the internet. There may have been a few other nuggets of truth in there, too. It’s a new world out there. Elementary schools no longer teach cursive handwriting – I guess because keyboarding is more important. Gone are the days of handwriting contests. We will soon have a world full of “doctor’s handwriting” – have you ever tried to read a prescription? My hope is that you will unplug a bit for the weekend, if you can. Give yourself a break from the tether to electronic devices – turn off your phone and leave it behind for awhile. There was a time when you could drive across the country with no cell phone. Listen to the wind, listen to the quiet, listen to the Spirit speaking to you for a long while. Ernest Hemingway once wrote, “I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.” Take a long listen to the people around you, the sounds around you, and to the voice within you. Jesus said, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!” (Matt 11:15) There is great truth to hear if we will take the time to listen.
