Spiritual Coaching Vol 2 #176 That’s Debatable… http://www.dennymeyer.me
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Ps 18:2
No, this is not about the Vice Presidential Debate from last night. It’s about you concentrating on what makes you happier and healthier. The debate may have informed, amused, or befuddled you. However, it is what you do for you that is key to your happieness. Ninety percent of your happiness is not based on what is going on outside of yourself – it’s based on how you perceive what is going on around you. Most of us believe that if we work harder we will be successful and if we are successful we will be happy. We never reach the horizon. This theory is deeply flawed. The truth is – if you are happy and more positive NOW – in this moment – you will be more successful in your life experiences. You perform much better when you are positive than when you are either negative, neutral, or stressed. When we realize that, we discover how, “The Lord is my rock…”
So today don’t debate the negative – write down the positive, instead:
First, write down one positive thing that has happened to you in the last 24 hours – think about that, give thanks for that experience, and share it with someone.
Second, take a walk, ride your bike, or go to the gym and give your body a chance to meditate while you move. Take a deep breath and give thanks for this simple gift.
Third, perform one random act of kindness toward someone – a positve encouraging email, a phone call of encouragement, or an act of service toward a neighbor, coworker, or schoolmate.
Try this and you will find there is no debate about what it starts to do for your happiness.
