One of the first things that I found valuable in reading “Storyline” was the idea of beginning a process of working on our story with a spiritual exercise. Sit quietly with your palms up resting on your knees. It is a posture of openness and readiness to receive from God. This posture is something I have used often for years but in the rush of the day I have not used it often enough. Yet, the sheer physicality of this act has involved my body and soul in readiness to imagine a whole new adventure.
As you sit with your palms up imagine yourself ten years from now. Where are you? What have you done over the last ten years? What were the really meaningful and important things over the last ten years? We can’t know, of course, but there are things that float to the surface like relationships, being used by God in meaningful ways, and other vital things of life float to the surface. Money and other trivial matters become less important. Try this exercise today.
What is God doing in the world and what part does God want you to play? He wants you to use your talents, passions, ideas, and interests to fulfill your purpose and destiny. Are you running out of time? Well, time only matters if it has limits. God created time. Just begin. Gaining mental, emotional, and spiritual clarity is so important to finding meaning for the time you have – no matter how much time you have.
