Theme… (4/6)

2014themeTheme… (4/6)

What’s your life theme? That’s a question I was asked a few weeks ago and I thought about how I would summarize what my theme is. What’s yours? How would you, in a sentence, summarize the theme of your life? Loving children? Being the best boss you can be? Being a great writer, lawyer, doctor, baker? Some of our themes might sound selfish and that’s just boring. What if you re-write your theme to make your life theme one that tells an amazing story. A story that saves a life or changes someones life. I’m not saying being a great mom or great boss is boring – what I’m trying to suggest is that we think about a guiding principal that motivates everything we do and has a positive affect on many people – now that’s interesting.

I wrote mine down. “Sharing the Good News with as many people as I can for as long as I can.” I capitalized Good News because that is specific for me. It is faith in the work and person of Jesus that I believe changes lives for the better. One of my favorite quotes of Jesus is found in John 10:10b, “I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness.” I believe that and it shapes my outlook on life and my theme. I write, teach, and serve because I believe that faith doesn’t just make us optimistic it can help us make the world a better place.

So today write your life theme down. Then write it every day for the next thirty days. Revise it as you go. Don’t make it all about you because that’s boring. Then you will begin to realize that your theme helps you to decide what you will do with your time. Your theme begins to shape your decisions and the direction you are heading. Try it.

Be Well…
