Listen today. Listen to the sounds around you, listen to the wind, to the birds, listen to the traffic, and the noises of the equipment that runs in the background of your life. Listen with your whole self and write down what you hear. When you meet with someone work at listening more than talking today. Listen to what they are talking to you about by becoming aware of the body language that is communicating more than the words do. Think about the spiritual nature of your communication.
At another point today do nothing. Nothing. Cease all your activity and be still. You have been with people now be away from people for even twenty minutes. Put aside all evaluation, judgment, and thoughts that busy your mind with all the “To Do’s” of your life. This can be one of the most difficult things to do. It takes an abandonment of your duties to just BE. Your spouse or significant other has expectations, your work has demands, and you have many things that you want to accomplish, yet, to stop all the doing and be aware of yourself in privacy is a rare thing. Ideas creep in and guilt may build up because you feel as though you are neglecting all of the expectations including your own.
The quieting of your spirit can bring you in touch with the Spirit. When you are done with this time of quiet give thanks. Gratitude is like a bonus poured out all over your life. It will bring a sense of peace to you even when the hectic day spins on. Wars and rumors of wars will always be a part of this world. Poverty and hatred spring up all around the globe. The world cries for attention but for a time disconnect from all of that. It does not need to be so with you. Let go of what the world is tormenting you with and be grateful for how God has made you.
I am grateful for who I am and what I am becoming.
Read this scripture:
“For ‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are indeed his offspring.’” Acts 17:28
