Spiritual Life Coaching – Mountain Men

Spiritual Life Coaching – Mountain Men

Have you watched it? The Mountain Men TV series is addictive for me. There is Eustace Conway, Marty Meierotto, Tom Oar (my favorite), Rich Lewis,  George MichaudCharlie Tuckerand Kyle Bell. It’s on the History Channel and although it is all staged and rehearsed, these guys are very real. I think what appeals to me is my lost ability to live off the land – to survive in the wilderness. There is a wildness to their existence that our modern world has lost amongst the Starbucks and Targets. If you call it a reality television you might be pushing truth a little bit but these guys are real and have real off-the-grid existence. Many of us long for that in our sterile prefab world.

Jesus was a bit of a mountain man. He loved to hike up before dawn into the hills to pray. He and the apostles seemed to live off the land – they even peeled a few ears of corn out of some farmers field as they walked along. To a flatlander like me that has a real appeal. I am going right now to my imaginary mountain to pray and prepare for the day. See you when I come down.

“I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From whence does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2

“One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.” Luke 6:12
