Spiritual Life Coaching – Peace Was Once A Dream
It is hard to believe that on September 17, 1978 the Camp David Accords were signed which inaugurated a peaceful time between Egypt and Israel. On the grounds of the White Housem Egyptian President Anwar el-Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin signed these historic Accords, laying the groundwork for a permanent peace agreement between Egypt and Israel after three decades of battles. The accords were negotiated during 12 days of intensive talks under the auspices of President Jimmy Carter at Camp David retreat center. The final peace agreement was signed in March 1979. Sadat and Begin were jointly awarded the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts.
It makes me think of that song by Joni Mitchell, California:
“Sitting in a park in Paris France
Reading the news and it sure looks bad
They won’t give peace a chance
That was just a dream some of us had…”
Was it just a dream? Can we ever find peace – these waring barbaric peoples of earth – can we abolish war and destruction? Some will tell you that Jimmy Carter didn’t accomplish much as a president, and maybe in retrospect there was a lot that went wrong. He did bring these two waring nations to a Camp-Out and got them to agree to stop fighting. Oh for those days again. Pray for peace my friends, pray for peace. Even as we remain strong and vigilant – pray for peace.
“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.” 2 Thessalonians 3:16
