Spiritual Life Coaching – The Right
There seems to be a lot of reasons to like New Zealand; rugged beautiful terrain, location shots of “Lord of the Rings,” wool, 5% of the population is human and the rest are animals, and I suppose there is more. Yet, this little known fact makes New Zealand a leader in the world. With the signing of the Electoral Bill, September 19, 1893, by Governor Lord Glasgow, New Zealand becomes the first country in the world to grant national voting rights to women.
The bill had been the outcome of years of suffragette meetings in towns and cities across the country, with women often traveling considerable distances to hear lectures and speeches, pass resolutions, and sign petitions. New Zealand women first went to the polls in the national elections of November 1893. It took the the United States twenty-seven years before women were granted the right to vote, and Great Britain guaranteed full voting rights for women in 1928.
So here is a shout out to New Zealand for it’s courage and foresight leading the nations of the world. I guess this means that a minor nation can make a major impact when it chooses to lead. Likewise, one person can make a difference leading the way when the cause is just and right.
