Spiritual Life Coaching – Books

Part of discipleship growth is reading. Today reading is easier than it has ever been. Places like half.com can get you used books at 1/3 the price or more, Kindle, iBooks, the church library, the public library are all great places to find books. You can also get audio editions which are great for commuting or long drives. I thought I’d share a few that would enhance your discipleship growth. They are all recent award winning books:

God’s Forever Family: The Jesus People Movement in America

Unapologetic: Why, Despite Everything, Christianity Can Still Make Surprising Emotional Sense

The End of Apologetics: Christian Witness in a Postmodern Context

Charity: The Place of the Poor in the Biblical Tradition

The World Is Not Ours to Save: Finding the Freedom to Do Good

Why Cities Matter: To God, the Culture, and the Church

Eat With Joy: Redeeming God’s Gift of Food

Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book About a (Really) Big Problem

Reading for Preaching: The Preacher in Conversation with Storytellers, Biographers, Poets, and Journalists

Insourcing: Bringing Discipleship Back to the Local Church

The Sky Beneath My Feet

Every Waking Moment

Sacred Scripture, Sacred War: The Bible and the American Revolution

Understanding Christian Mission: Participation in Suffering and Glory

Death by Living: Life Is Meant to Be Spent

An Unhurried Life: Following Jesus’ Rhythms of Work and Rest

The Mystery of God: Theology for Knowing the Unknowable

The Holy Spirit: In Biblical Teaching, Through the Centuries, and Today

Glimpses of Grace: Treasuring the Gospel in Your Home

I’ve given you a year’s worth of reading or maybe one or two to spice up your reading or listening list. I love history and biographies but I do read a great deal of literature that deals with the Church and its mission. My special focus this year is on disciples. What shapes us, what motivates us, what helps us to grow, and what will help us to pass it on to another generation. That will be a recurring theme in the year ahead.

I’d like to hear from you. When you read one of these share your thoughts. Tell me about  the things that are helping you in your journey of discipleship. Ask questions – maybe I can help. We need a reawakening in America to the call of discipleship. We need a refirement of energy and commitment to grow both inward and outward as the disciples of Jesus, the Christ.

Be Well – Read Well…
