Bombastic, crude, rude, attention seeking, and rich all describe “The Donald.” Has he tapped into a part of the American psyche? Is he a republican or just reprehensible? Most Americans know that government is disfunctional but Trump, who puts his name on everything he owns, is lowering discourse and personal vendettas to a new low. President Obama may need an anger translator but Trump needs some kind of spiritual guidance. Our nation needs to be introduced to civility again. We’ve lost it somewhere along the way. Attack politics has become the norm and the nation follows suit. Rudeness, crude language, “gangsta behavior”, and self interest are quickly replacing the very moral bedrock that we once treasured as a nation.
The French speak of a disease which they call La Maladie du moi, or “Me-sickness.” Many people are troubled by this behavior; they are too much concerned with themselves. Despite all the strides science has made, it has offered no vaccine to combat this deadly ailment. The only remedy that has ever been effective was that offered by the Great Physician. Love and serving engenders selflessness for selfishness in the heart of the human race, and “Me-sickness” vanishes like a morning mist as the sun rises.
Read 2 Timothy 3:2-4 and tell me what you think of “Trumpism,” “For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God…” Is that what we want for ourselves?
