On of the hardest concepts for us to understand is that our own brokenness can bring healing and hope as we endure. This is part of our growth toward maturity in Christ. God’s part of our growth is to bring good out of the sin and brokenness of this world. Our part is to develop endurance. You’ve heard the saying, “What doesn’t break you makes you stronger.” I say to you that it is our very brokenness that can bring good because of what God has done in Christ. We are able to build endurance and remain faithful until the end. Consider what St. Paul wrote in Romans 8:28 “We are well aware that God works with those who love him, those who have been called in accordance with his purpose, and turns everything to their good.” Loving God brings more than God’s love in return – it brings good out of the broken world and broken lives. Healing and hope result. Dreams are fulfilled or launched or built upon.
But what happens if we stop growing and reaching and facing life with endurance? “This what the Lord says: ‘Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans and turn their hearts away from the Lord. They are like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for their future. They will live in the barren wilderness, on the salty flats where no one lives.’” (Jeremiah 17:5-6) We are thrust into the dry desert arena of life without the necessary means to grow and flourish. Likewise if we grow a deep faith filled soul we are told, “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord, and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they go right on producing delicious fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
God gives us a choice and invites us on this journey. He says dream big dreams – God sized dreams – faith empowered dreams. Live a better story with your life.
