From Donal Miller, to Korie Robertson (Duck Dynasty), to Shauna Niequist, to Miles Adcox the morning at Storyline has crossed the gamut of emotions. Powerful stories have been amazing and that is what we are trying to do at the conference this year. “Chase Your Dreams” has been the theme which after my sermon series “Dare to Dream” has been powerful for me.
I think the think that shook me the most was an example Miles Adcox, CEO of Onsite, gave to all of us. We were given a paper tape measure. He told us to find our age on the centimeter side of the tape and tear it off there and toss the waste over our shoulder. “The past is the past – it’s gone,” he tells us. Then he instructs us to go ahead and guess the date of your passing and tear off from there until the end of the tape. We look at what’s left and he asks, “What are you waiting for? What do you need to do? Who do you need to forgive or speak to or what part of your story needs to be told with the time you have?” I sat and looked at mine for awhile in this room of three thousand and felt very singular at that moment. Even though everyone else was doing the same thing.
What I have liked about the conference is that it helps me to “fill the well,” as I like to say and challenge me to think in different ways. At the same time it is very humbling. Imagine you have that same tape measure in front of you. What are you going to do with the time you have left?
“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” (Matthew 24:32)
