Spiritual Life Coaching – Little Things
It’s funny how you find little things that make you wonder, what was meant by that? I was looking for DVDs that I knew existed somewhere in the house but I had no idea where I might stumble upon them. I simply wondered and asked the silence around me, where are they?
I had made those DVDs from old VHS tapes and as I searched I found two coffee cups with a chalkboard message section. What were they for? A Christmas present, a someday present for someone, a surprise for a later date – what were the intentions? I stopped and look and moved on looking for those elusive DVDs. Then there is a basket, or a candle, or a book with a note card in it to be sorted through and I thought these things too. We collect so many things that we categorize and organize and we know exactly what they mean but the meaning is lost to even those who are closest to us when we are not there.
Then the words from the prophet Isaiah came to my mind, ” ‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the LORD. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.’ ” (Isaiah 55:8)
I don’t need to know. Earthly things and imaginations pass a way like the flowers of the field but the way of God’s love endures. I wrap myself in that thought and treasure God’s love for the moment. There are those elusive DVDs – placed amid some books on one of the bookshelves with books that have been read long ago. I pause and just say, “Thank you.” Thank you for a sense of being loved and connected to something so great that I cannot even comprehend the beauty and grandeur of what God intends.
I don’t think the living ever “move on,” as some say. We move ahead and look for the open door or the path that seems right and good but we carry all those things with us until the time when someone else sorts through our little storehouse of paper or reads inscriptions in our books. Maybe that person looks up and says something sweet and good and remembers that they are a part of God’s grand plan.
