Spiritual Life Coaching – Warmth

Spiritual Life Coaching – Warmth

Glorious. After the recent blizzard snow piles still remain in the parking lot outside. They are quickly melting as warm air streams in to our area. Easter is just days away but Lent for me is still like a pall that drapes over my spirit. It has always been that way. The sweetness and joy of Easter is only that way when I have gone down to the depths of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. I ache knowing what Jesus went through and what Lent takes us through to get to Easter.

I used to loathe it – this forty day trial with its somber hymns now just captures how I feel with sorrow and loss. Yet, the warmth today gives me a hint of what is ahead – a hope to hang on to as I walk through the valley of the shadow. “Were You There,” rings in my ears even as I do the day-to-day work of the people of our community of faith. The daylight lengthens and shadows fade and we hope.

I was reading Psalm 39 today and the words moved me…

“O Lord, make me know my end
    and what is the measure of my days;
    let me know how fleeting I am!
 Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths,
    and my lifetime is as nothing before you.
Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath!
   Surely a man goes about as a shadow!
Surely for nothing[a] they are in turmoil;
    man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather!

 “And now, O Lord, for what do I wait?
    My hope is in you.

My hope is in you – my hope is in you – to live we must know how short our days really are. We must marvel at the gift of life and then we must love as Jesus loved. This is Holy Week. Each week is Holy Week…

Be Well…
