Everyone In The Nation Is Talking About This

Everyone In The Nation Is Talking About This

I heard one of the talking heads state that “Everyone in the nation is talking about this.” I immediately said to myself, no they’re not and if they are they are wasting their time. Gossip and tabloid news is what we get from television – for the most part. Salacious books are promoted. Hollywood star’s lives and libertine lifestyles are touted as mainstream. We may be losing our way and a new idolatry is setting in. We don’t think – we let images control us. The Psalmist writes, “How glad the nations will be, singing for joy, because you govern them with justice and direct the actions of the whole world.” (Ps 67:4) Justice suggests thought and truth and not idolatry of entertainment. The people of God have always been very cautious with images as a way of understanding.

Work for justice – think – be informed – these are the actions of the wise. If you have a big arena and larger stage across your city or state or nation it is even more important to be a thoughtful and just person. Talk about things that help people’s lives and don’t just do what entertains you. Being positive does not mean you are ignorant of world affairs. I don’t agree that there is a lot of fake news out there – I think it is a lot of entertainment journalism. Understand what you consume. Be a person who acts with justice and mercy and cares about others and not yourself. You will be the one who makes your community and this nation great. That is God’s vision. God’s work and your hands.

Be Well…
